KEMBA Financial Credit Union is an area leader at making things count, and in this case, finding active ways to contribute toward the positive youth development of children, teens, and young adults in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio programming.
This past summer, we welcomed key KEMBA team members to provide weekly financial education as a critical component of our Life Skills programming offered at Camp Oty’Okwa, our residential camp located in the Hocking Hills region. Teen participants learned the importance of budgeting and credit, and ways to carefully manage their personal finances as they grow into adulthood.
More recently, KEMBA staff donated their time at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio main office in Columbus to help assemble 85 “Match Boxes” that will be given to new adult-youth matches enrolled in our classic 1:1 mentoring program. These boxes are designed for new “Big” (adult volunteer mentor) and “Little” (youth) who have been matched in our programming to have something to help forge their initial bond and give meaningful activities to explore together. The boxes are themed for our Camp Oty’Okwa, and feature activities like friendship bracelet making, postcard writing, flower planting, a nature scavenger hunt, and the construction of a cookie-baking solar oven. The KEMBA team enthusiastically tackled this project and raised the spirits of staff in the office by their joyful presence!
We are grateful for KEMBA’s continued hands-on support of our programming that helps children-young adults who need it most through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio and Camp Oty’Okwa.
